On behalf of Chief Norma Webb and Council, Peters First Nation is offering our heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of Robert Peters (September 21, 2022) and Ben Peters (November 11, 2022). Our deepest sympathies go out to the entire community and hope that we can all reach out and support one another.

Peters First Nation provided support to both families with meals and funeral costs.

Robert W. Peters –  Arrangements & Service Information

September 26, 2022

On behalf of the Peters family, we would like to announce the following arrangements and information for the services for our beloved Pathiyatil – Robert W. Peters:

The family will be a gathering at Shxw’ow’hamel First Nations Gymnasium from September 23, 24 & 25th from 6:00 – 10:00 pm to share potluck style meals, stories, and memories. Please inform Teresa Peters of any food donations you plan on sharing. 

Procession to Shxw’ow’hamel will begin on Monday, September 26, 2022 at 2:00 pm from Woodlawn Funeral Home (45865 Hocking Ave, Chilliwack, BC) to Shxw’ow’hamel First Nation Gymnasium (58700-A St. Elmos Rd.)

Prayers on Monday, September 26, 2022 at 7:00 pm. Services will be Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at 10:00 am.

Peters First Nation Employment & Economic Development Survey

Peters First Nation is conducting an employment survey aligned with our 5-year Comprehensive Community and Economic Development Plan and is looking for your input.

The purpose of this survey is to collect information regarding individual skills, employment experience, and aspirations. We are also looking to gauge your interest in potential employment and/or business opportunities within the area.

The survey can be completed in approximately 10 minutes. To show our appreciation for your time we are offering all participants $100 gift card. (Limited to one gift card per PFN member).

FEDERAL INDIAN DAY SCHOOL CLASS ACTION SUBMITION DEADLINE EXTENDED TO JULY 13

A nation-wide settlement to compensate former students of Federal Indian Day Schools and Federal Day Schools is still in progress. 

All former students of Day Schools are strongely encouraged to submit a claim form to recieve compensation before the deadline of July 13, 2022.

INFORMATION ON BRITISH COLUMBIA’S SPRING FLOOD SEASON – HOW TO STAY PREPARED

June 7, 2022

British Columbians are urged to take steps to prepare for spring floods to protect their families and property.

A warming trend this week is increasing temperatures to the highest level of the season with the possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall forecast for the weekend.

The risk of spring flooding is elevated across B.C., particularly in parts of the Interior and the North, due to a significant delay of snowmelt from cooler-than-normal conditions in April and May. Current modelling indicates the risk that flood conditions may emerge over the weekend within watersheds through the Interior and northwest of B.C. Check the River Forecast Centre website for updated advisories and forecasts that show specific areas of heightened flood risk.  

British Columbians are urged to follow all directions of local authorities and take steps to prepare for the possibility of flooding.

ROAD PAVING PROJECT

March 30, 2022

PFN 3 Feathers is proposing to use economic profits to pave the main road on reserve (not including driveways) to benefit of all Peters First Nation who live on reserve and those who come to visit relatives. This is something that many Peters members have been requesting for many years, as the road is in very bad shape.

The cost of paving the road would normally be higher, however a PFN 3 Feathers partner has agreed to contribute to the project.

We hope everyone will be pleased with this community improvement project!

HOLIDAY MESSAGE FROM CHIEF & COUNCIL

To all Peters First Nation Members,

Chief and Council would like to acknowledge that this last year has proven to be a difficult and challenging one for all of us. We have all had to deal with our own personal challenges and hardships, as well as the continued COVID-19 pandemic, residential school discoveries, fires of the summer, and current flood conditions.

However, there has been a bit of a bright spot in our endeavours. PFN 3 Feathers Development LLP, a company established by Chief and Council to manage the economic development activities of the Nation, has earned a profit. This profit was accomplished through the hard work and commitment of the CEO of PFN 3 Feathers. Chief and Council would like to share these profits with Peters’ members and has requested that PFN 3 Feathers Development LLP issue a dividend to the Nation from those profits.

With the Holiday Season upon us, we would like to acknowledge the continued challenges everyone has experienced and continues to experience. Chief and Council is excited to distribute these dividends directly back to you, the members.

NOTICE OF NOMINATION MEETING

Please read the attached notice regarding the meeting of the Electors of the Peters First Nation which will be held at the Peters First Nation, Band Office, 16870 Peters Rd. Hope, B.C., on November 8, 2021, beginning at 5:00 PM and lasting for at least three hours. The purpose of the meeting is  nominating candidates for the positions of Chief and Councillors on the Band Council of the Peters First Nation for the next ensuing term.  There are two (2) Councillor positions and one (1) position for Chief available.  The election will be held at the Hampton Inn located at 8050 Lickman Road, Chilliwack, B.C. on December 22, 2021. COVID-19 GROCERY SUPPORT

As COVID-19 continues to impact our communities, Chief and Council are pleased to announce that direct deposits will be made to each household for grocery support. This will be done on a monthly basis by household.

For our members who are diabetic, gift cards will be sent to you to support you with your needs.

The health and safety of our community is important to us, we ask that everyone please get vaccinated for our children and elders. If you have not gotten vaccinated yet, or have questions regarding the COVID-19 vaccine, please contact Victoria.

GUY PETERS MEMBERSHIP VOTE MOVED TO DECEMBER 22, 2021

Please note that the meeting of Electors to provide information on Guy Peters application for membership and the membership vote has been moved to December 22, 2021 (the same day as the upcoming election). More information will be provided closer to the rescheduled date.

EMBC HEAT WARNING SUPPORT

A couple of key personal preparedness points:

Keep cool. High indoor temperatures are associated with increased risk. Stay indoors in air-conditioned buildings or take a cool bath or shower. At temperatures above 30 C, fans alone may not be able to prevent heat-related illness. Home treatment for mild heat exhaustion may include:

• • moving to a cooler environment;
  • drinking plenty of cool, non-alcoholic fluids;
  • resting; and
  • taking a cool shower or bath.

If symptoms are not mild, last longer than one hour, change, worsen or cause concern, contact a health-care provider.

• To ask about heat-related illness, call HealthLinkBC at 811.
• Visit local health authority websites for more information on safety tips and how to keep cool during high temperatures.

Heat Alert and Response System (HARS) webpage including a link to an Interior Health Authority toolkit providing community partners practical information and resources that will assist in developing and implementing heat alert and response systems and strategies to respond to extreme heat, specifically in rural communities.

First Nations and local authorities are encouraged to engage with their regional health authorities and/or First Nations Health Authority, for information and/or guidance on possible health impacts and risk factors specific to the local context.

EMPLOYMENT READINESS TRAINING PROGRAM – REGISTER NOW!

Registration is ongoing for the Employment Readiness Training Program. The program offers basic safety training courses that can be done online as well environmental training courses that will be held in-person at Seabird College. TRANS MOUNTAIN CAPACITY FUNDING EMPLOYMENT READINESS TRAINING

Employment-readiness training will be provided for Peters First Nation and Seabird Island Band members under the Trans Mountain Capacity Funding program. The training will include environmental monitoring, technical writing, and safety training. Additional training may be offered depending on level of interest and job opportunities. SHINGLES VACCINATION

Peters First Nation members aged fifty (50) and older are eligible for shingles vaccination coverage where it is not covered by MSP or other insurers. A receipt is required for reimbursement. Please submit your receipts to [email protected].
